Why I made the decision to start solo travelling.

Just because you travel alone, doesn’t mean you’ll be alone during all your travels. I happened to make the decision to travel solo after my back to back trips to the USA.

This is because I enjoyed escaping reality just for a couple of months. From there it become a constant thing of wanting to be abroad. Being away from work, university , family and friends. Just me discovering the world and finding myself .  Do you know how much courage I had to build in order to feel comfortable travelling solo.

It took a lot but once I made that first steps, I just knew that I was able to accomplish anything. My attempt was trying new activities that would bring me out of my comfort zone. I knew that wasn’t going to happen in London so I made the decision to move to Manchester, and even then I realised that was still wasn’t enough. I’m one for seeking new opportunities, I’ll chase it until I’ve said I’ve reached it.

So from there I began searching about solo travellers and watching their own experiences in new places and how they went about making the decision to travel alone. I realised that could be me in a couple years time, if I planned it properly and discovered the countries background. And before you knew it I booked my first solo trip to Washington DC. So far I’ve visited four destinations alone, New York, Costa Brava, Barcelona and just finished four lovely days in Palma de Mallorca.

Yes it’s a scary experience entering a new country without having a clue knowing what to expect. But I had to just take that jump to see what was on the other side. Many of us live without venturing out of our comfort zone to experience new adventures.

And for some that’s okay. Many don’t like to travel or are just purely happy with the way there life is for the time being. There’s no rush to live your life how you’ve pictured, but make the most of it whilst you can.

I feel the purpose of me constantly travelling and moving about is because I’m trying to find my fit. I know that I don’t see myself living in the UK for the rest of my life therefore, circulating around Europe has allowed me to focus on where I would see my self next when I consider moving.

Since taking my first solo adventure to the United States, I felt it was only right to expand on my trips and start with Europe. My aim for this new year was to at least visit a new destination each month. We’re in February and two trips will have been ticked off my list.

Travelling solo has its perks in terms that I’m able to go sightseeing at my own paste and  not have to wait for someone else. But also I’m able to just take time to embrace my experiences. During previous trips I often felt myself waiting around or not visiting places that I set out to visit due to friends having different wishes whilst abroad.

During my recent solo trip to Mallorca, I visited some remarkable places, that I don’t think I would have seen if I travelled with friends. I’ve captured every moment and unfolded the story behind every monument.

Solo trips become so useful when you feel the need to get away from reality. So I would highly recommend trying it at least once. A different environment can make such a huge difference.
